weak screen – got a small crack in corner of screen…for some reason, it made the phone inopt…

This is a great phone if you don’t mind a little sluggishness – I just got the phone a couple of days ago but have been using it constantly and putting it to the test a lot in the last 48 hours. It feels really nice in the hand and has a fairly premium feel to it despite it being very budget friendly. Love the large screen. The facial recognition and fingerprint sensor are perfect… they both work really well and i have not had any trouble with either one. It’s got android 12 which is cool and fun to use. I love that you can take a picture using the fingerprint sensor… excellent idea and makes it so much easier than having to worm your thumb around to hit the button on the screen .. esp. with a large phone like this. Lots of little extras that you can discover if you spend some time playing around with it. The downside is that it is a bit on the slow side. It definitely does lag when opening apps .. some apps take longer than others. Scrolling thru Twitter and Instagram is bumpy at best. Other applications on the phone like settings, contacts, email, messages, etc, seem to scroll just fine. But not a super quick phone if that is what you are looking for. That said, you can get used to pretty much anything and for the money this is a pretty solid device. I’ve had two other TCL phones and liked them both very much. This one is my favorite size-wise, but the other two models had faster processors. Screen colors are pretty nice. Photos aren’t bad. The camera seems improved over the TCL 20s which is the other model i own. Not a point and shoot camera – you have to take at least a couple of shots to get it perfectly clear and focused, in my experience. All in all fairly pleased with it. Early days so time will tell but as of right now it’s not bad. Battery life is great. With moderate use you will definitely get a full day and then some.

It’s an inexpensive phone. Treat as such – I bought one of these for my teen son as he doesn’t take care of his electronics at all. This is his second TCL phone. I bought it without a warranty and he shattered the screen 30 mins after I set it up and handed it to him. The included case is slicker than the phone. I bought a second one for him and a warranty this time. I wouldn’t use face unlock as it doesn’t have an infrared camera, so face unlock is not very secure. Even though the claims to be a TCL 30XL, it shows up in his google security alert that it is a TCL 20 SE.

Charging port broken – A month after buying the charging port broke. I had a little trouble charging the phone as soon as I got it but then seemed to work good. However after a month of use it refused to charge at all… I returned it for a refund and will not be buying a TCL ever again.

Update – Excellent Customer Service – The phone I was using prior to this one was slowing down a bit and also the battery life seems to be draining faster, as well as charging slower. I bought this phone thinking I’d be getting a bit of an upgrade, but it’s not a great phone, honestly. The speakers are awful and the processor is the worst – my two main qualms. Otherwise, it pretty much functions like any other phone. I’ve been debating just switching my service back to my old phone but then I wouldn’t know what to do with this one since I can no longer return it. I mostly bought it because it was slightly bigger than my previous phone but honesty… There’s hardly a difference. Major pass on this product.

Awesome Bang For Your Buck? You Bet. Best Phone I’ve Ever Had? Not Quite – I was passing my old phone down to my son and bought this as an inexpensive replacement. The last TCL phone I owned was very good so I wanted to give this one a try at such a good deal when I bought it. (149.99). This rating is based on budget phones, not all phones. If you want to burn $300 plus, there are several amazing options that beat this one. As far as budget phones, it’s a lot of bang for your buck, and worth a look if you want a large screen like I do, because I have big hands and like the extra space for typing. It’s very well constructed and feels more expensive than it is. The screen is huge and vibrant. The fingerprint scanner and facial recognition work great, though I don’t prefer the fingerprint scanner be on the back, because while out of cases it’s super intuitive, as I’ve found out, some cases are too thick and make the scanner impossible to use. The case that comes with it, still allows you to use it. And it functions very well. The camera is as good as you’ll ever see at this price point. If you are wondering if you are spending too much on smartphones and are looking to check into the budget market, this is definitely one to look at.

mostly good – there are two flaws with this phone. 1 the charger that comes with the phone is the only one that will work well. 2 the screen cracks much more easilly than most phones

What a great phone but… – I broke my Samsung while visiting NYC and bought this one as a temporary substitute but I fell in love with its battery life. The camera is amazing for cell phone photography. It is very easy to use and responds promptly. The only problem I had with it was when I returned to Turkey and tried to install a Turk Telekom SIM into it. The phone didn’t respond to that. I wonder if it works outside the U.S. If not, my money is wasted because I do not live in the U.S. I took a star out for that 🙁
