Buyer Beware – I bought this phone for my mother in November. At the time it was listed as AT&T compatible & 4G. I had no idea that 4G was not just 4G, that there were different types, and that the type on this phone was not compatible with AT&T. At first the phone worked fine, then AT&T shut down their 3G network, and the phone quit making & receiving calls & texts. Since it was past the return window with Amazon, I reached out to Nokia for my mother (who is even less tech savvy than I am). First the online support had me do all kinds of settings changes, but it did not work. Finally, they had us send the phone back to them, and they sent my mother a replacement. The replacement phone did not work any better than the first phone. At this point, I reached out to her carrier, and they immediately checked to see if this was a 4G phone with VoLTE. It was not, so it cannot work on AT&T’s network. We reached back out to Nokia about this, and they immediately started the blame game. It isn’t their fault that AT&T decided to no longer allow most most cell phones on there network, etc. Sadly, this shows a major flaw in Nokia. First, they should have known what the problem was when I first contacted them. They wasted there money and time by having us send the phone to them and then just sending the same model of phone back to us that would not work. Yes, legally they were not responsible for the phone no longer working with AT&T. I could have thoroughly researched and learned about 4G prior to purchasing a phone, but as a non-techy I depended on the reviews and the information provided by the company. Ethically I feel that Nokia should have offered to replace the phone with there one model that has VoLTE (although it would have been a downgrade for us), or offered to buy back the phone for at least part of the purchase price. Nokia showed nothing but incompetence and and lack of responsibility. I have learned my lesson and will only buy a mainstream phone brand.

What Happened to Nokia? – My first cell phones were Nokia they worked great. This phone isn’t great. I had the phone for a day and I had 5 updates from Google. They drained the battery real quick. It would have been nice to have a phone that worked for calls and texts. I returned the phone. Back to the old moto g that still works like a charm.

Check with your carrier prior to purchase – This was a great phone. I bought this because my wife and youngest son have one. Unfortunately the write up stated unlocked for all carriers, and Cricket said it was not compatible with their services.

Great Phone In This Price Bracket – Most of the poor reviews for this phone seem to be from people who don’t understand phones these days.

Nokia 5.3 – Phone works good

Touchscreen degrades very quickly! Avoid Nokia! – My wife had this phone for about a year, just a few months ago the touchscreen started acting up. Missed touches at first, then she had to start swiping really hard for swype text input, then the screen started going crazy with random ghost touches. Rebooting would lessen the symptoms temporarily, then it would just come back again. The phone would be five stars if it were not for this deal-breaking issue. Since the exact same thing happened to my Nokia 7.2 at about the same time, we’re never buying Nokia brand again. After all, these aren’t real Nokia from Finland, they’re Chinese crap from HMD Global.
