– I have purchased 3 devices in the last month. all 3 have the UI crash and throw an error. “System UI has stopped”. I have returned all 3 of them.

– My son had gone through 799 phones I think, all Apples, every imaginable thing has happened to them, before you say you should have bought the warranties I will tell you I did but that doesn’t help you when it is 5 months old in the bottom of a swamp and unable to locate, warranty is only so good.

– Over the years I have had multiple “tough” phones including Kyocera duraforce, and duraforce pro and now the cat S41. The S41 has been the toughest and most robust of them all. It also has the largest battery although it seemed that it should have lasted longer. The Kyocera duraforce with a 3100 battery seemed to last as long as the Cats. After having the phone for about 5 months I did start to notice the battery started to not last much more than a day. It should be noted that when I first got the phone, it would last 3 days. The operating system was far from perfect. It often needed to be rebooted or would freeze up and sometimes just reboot itself. Often there seemed to be other software problems effecting the daily running of the phone. Often a reboot would fix the problems, but it just seemed to have problems all the time. Eventually I contacted Cat to try and get the battery and software issues dealt with. They did send me a box prepaid to return my phone to return to be fixed or replaced. It did take some time to get the package. Eventually, i got a letter in the mail saying what my phone needed, and that I had 30 days to pay a over $200 dollar balance plus a diagnostic fee to get my phone back due to a broken screen. nothing was said of a battery nor addressing software problems. Considering I didn’t get the letter until days after i was to let the repair company know what I wanted to do with the phone and also it had been over 2 months since i sent the phone away.

A very good phone with a singular flaw – I bought this phone several months ago to replace a low end LG, which was an emergency replacement for a Google Nexus phone that got bricked on an Android ‘update’ (thanks a lot Google). I prefer ruggedized phones if only because I believe the consumer has a right to expect that their expensive electronics designed for use outdoors can reasonably survive the bumps and bruises of everyday life. I selected the S41 based on price (around $350 when I bought it), compatibility with my carrier (AT&T) and reputation for rugged construction.
